Custom Software, Inc. was founded in 1982 in Terre Haute, Indiana, on a simple idea: small retailers deserve the same quality of point-of-sale and back-office tools as the big chains — without losing the human relationship that makes a small business work in the first place.
Our story
For more than forty years our team has worked alongside Indiana retailers, liquor stores, and convenience locations — writing software, racking hardware, and answering the phone when something breaks. We’ve grown up with our customers, and a lot of them have been with us since the beginning.
We’re still based out of the same office on Woodsmall Drive, still family-sized, and still answering our own phones. When you call us, you don’t get a queue or a chatbot — you get a real person, within five minutes during business hours. That’s the promise.
Today we’re investing in what comes next: a new cloud-hybrid retail management system that brings AI-driven inventory and real-time updating to small retailers — without abandoning the local control that makes our customers’ stores reliable.
What we believe
Small business is the backbone. We’re a small business ourselves. We know what tight margins, long hours, and one-person-doing-three-jobs looks like. Everything we build is designed to be useful first, and affordable second.
Trust is earned, then guarded. We’ve held customer accounts for thirty-plus years. That only happens when you act with integrity every single time.
Local matters. All of our support, repair, and software development is done in Indiana. When a customer in Terre Haute needs hands on a machine, our techs are an hour away — not a continent.
